Man accused of ‘random assault’ at The Forks jumps out 3rd-floor window to avoid arrest: WPS

A suspect wanted Canada-wide has been arrested by police in Winnipeg, but not before he jumped out of a third-storey window in an attempt to avoid capture, police say.

The 33-year-old man was the suspect in a random attack at The Forks Market on June 6 that put a man in hospital. The Winnipeg Police Service alleges the same suspect is responsible for two other incidents that same night, including another random attack.

Exactly one month later, Winnipeg police arrested the suspect near an apartment building on Jefferson Avenue. Police allege the accused jumped from the window and then ran before being taken into custody.

“He continued to resist arrest, and a taser was deployed to gain control and take him into custody,” the WPS said in a news release.

On June 6 around 11:15 p.m., a 30-year-old man was allegedly knocked to the ground at The Forks by a suspect and assaulted until he lost consciousness.

The suspect then allegedly stole something before walking away. Police believe the suspect threw that same stolen item at a woman walking her dog near the Riverwalk.

The victim was in stable condition when he was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

About 40 minutes later, Winnipeg police say a 37-year-old woman was assaulted and had her purse stolen while she waited in line at a beer vendor on Westminster Avenue.

Around 1:40 a.m., police say the same suspect broke into a residential garage in River Heights and rummaged through the vehicle inside. They say he attempted to break into the home but was not successful.

Daniel Christopher Dumas has been charged with two counts of robbery, break and enter, theft under, resisting arrest, and being unlawfully at large. He was detained in custody.
