Winnipeg police say a 30-year-old man was injured after what authorities are describing as a random attack at The Forks Market on Friday night.
The Winnipeg Police Service alleges the victim was knocked to the ground by a suspect, “where the attack continued” until he lost consciousness. It happened around 11:15 p.m.
The suspect then allegedly stole an item belonging to the victim before walking away. Police believe the suspect threw that same stolen item at a woman walking her dog near the Riverwalk. Investigators are asking that woman to speak to them.
The victim was in stable condition when he was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
The suspect is described as a man between 25 and 35 years old with a medium to heavy build. He was wearing a black t-shirt, black pants, a New York Yankees black baseball cap, and black shoes.
He was last seen around Bonnycastle Park, near Assiniboine Avenue and Garry Street.
Investigators with the major crimes unit have taken over the investigation.
