A brief stint of warm weather in Winnipeg is set to end.
On Thursday afternoon, Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a Blizzard Warning for the city, elevating caution as an Alberta clipper is set to bring with it snow, wind and reduced visibility.
The weather system is set to roll through the Red River Valley starting Friday morning, bringing with it much colder temperatures from the North and winds that could gust as high as 90 km/h.
The national forecaster is predicting dangerous conditions with the arrival of the snowstorm, as by Friday afternoon, it will feel like – 28 C with the wind chill, creating a risk of frostbite.
Members of the public are advised to be ready for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.
Motorists advised if visibility is reduced while driving, they should maintain a safe following distance and drive with their lights on.
If you do become stranded, you are advised to stay in your car, as it offers some shelter from the cold and a vehicle is easier to locate than a single person.
Those who have to travel should inform others of your destination and estimated time of arrival while ensuring you have a mobile phone and emergency kit.
