Police say a Winnipeg security guard was arrested Friday in connection with the assault of an 18-year-old woman outside a downtown establishment exactly seven weeks earlier.
The Winnipeg Police Service says the woman was smoking on the patio of the establishment on Main Street and Portage Avenue on Aug. 30 around 11:30 p.m. when she was confronted by security staff, who told her it was prohibited to smoke.
Police say they began to argue, and it escalated to a physical altercation, at which point the woman fell to the ground.
“While on the ground she was assaulted by the security member, which rendered her unconscious,” WPS said in a news release.
The victim required medical treatment, police added.
Investigators with the major crimes unit obtained video surveillance.
On Friday, a 42-year-old man was arrested. He is facing a charge of assault causing bodily harm, and was released on an undertaking.
