A 38-year-old man faces charges following stabbing incidents in the downtown area on Friday night.
Around 8 p.m., officers were called to Portage Avenue and Carlton Street after reports of a man who was stabbed.
Investigators with the Major Crimes Unit believe the suspect and the victim were known to each other and were consuming alcohol at a nearby park. During the altercation, the victim, a man in his 50s, was allegedly stabbed in the upper body and taken to hospital in critical condition.
Half an hour later, police responded to a second stabbing on Graham Avenue and Garry Street. Officers found a man in his 20s who was seriously injured, and provided him with emergency medical care.
Investigators believe the two stabbing incidents are related.
They say the second victim saw the first altercation and followed the suspect along with another individual. The two men and the suspect got into an alleged altercation, resulting in the second victim being stabbed in the upper body. He was taken to hospital in critical condition.
Police say the suspect fled on a bus and was eventually located by investigators in the river by the Point Douglas area. The suspect swam back to the bank and was taken into custody.
The suspect has been charged with multiple offences, including two counts of aggravated assault and possession of a weapon.
The investigation into the stabbings is ongoing.
The two victims have since been upgraded to stable condition.
