Winnipeg police charge man in November 2022 homicide

Police in Winnipeg have charged a 49-year-old man in connection to the death of Delany Nora Desmarais in November 2022.
The WPS says around 5:20 a.m., on Nov. 12, 2022, officers responded to a report of an injured woman.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 23-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound. The officers provided emergency medical care until an ambulance could arrive at the scene.
Paramedics took her to a hospital in critical condition, where she later died from her injuries. The woman was later identified as Desmarais.
Through an investigation, police were able to identify a potential suspect linked to Desmarais’ death, and issued an arrest warrant.
On May 1, 2024, officers took 49-year-old Clinton Desmond Bignell was taken into custody.
He has since been charged with manslaughter, careless use of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and pointing a firearm.
