2 Winnipeggers charged for assaulting Mountie

Winnipeg police say two people have been charged in connection with the assault of an off-duty RCMP officer.
WPS says around 3:10 p.m. on Feb. 6, officers responded to Buchanan Boulevard near Fairlane Avenue, near Buchanan School Elementary School, after receiving a report of an assault.
When officers arrived, they found the off-duty officer suffering from upper-body injuries. he was taken to a hosptial for his injuries.
Two men were also taken into custody without incident.
Police say during the incident, school administration initiated hold and secure protocols, and attending officers subsequently assisted with traffic control to ensure the safe dismissal of students.
WPS say through an investigation, they learned that the suspects were in a vehicle around the time of the school’s dismissal and had reportedly begun to create a disturbance.
At this point, the off-duty RCMP officer approached the vehicle, identified himself, and asked the men to exit the vehicle. The suspects then reportedly threatened the officer and began physically assaulting him.
WPS says a 39-year-old man and a 44-year-old man have been charged with assaulting a peace officer, uttering threats, and causing a disturbance.
The 44-year-old has also been charged with two counts operating a vehicle while impaired.
