Suspect wanted after mother, two young children found dead in burning home in Portage la Prairie

RCMP are searching for a man believed to be connected with the deaths of a mother and her two young children about an hour east of Winnipeg early Sunday morning.

Three bodies were found after crews put out a fire from a burning home in Portage la Prairie around 1 a.m.

Police have identified the victims as a 32-year-old mother, her six-year-old daughter and her three-year-old son – all from Portage la Prairie.

Investigators determined the victims sustained injuries that were not associated to the fire. Their deaths are considered homicides.

One man was taken into custody on Sunday. He was released the following day.

Manitoba RCMP and the Winnipeg Police Service are now looking for 50-year-old Trevis Mcleod. He was charged with arson and three counts of second-degree murder.

Mcleod was seen in Winnipeg on Monday and Tuesday. Police believe the suspect is still in the Winnipeg area.

Police are warning the public that he is considered dangerous and should not be approached.
