Bus drivers threaten to strike next week: Winnipeg School Division

The Winnipeg School Division has received notice from their bus drivers’ union that they may go on strike on September 8th – the first day back to school. As Marie Gomez finds out, they’ve already been at the bargaining table for months.

WINNIPEG (CITYNEWS) – The already hectic back-to-school period could become a little trickier for some Winnipeg parents.

The union that represents bus drivers for the Winnipeg School Division (WSD) says a bus-driver strike could be imminent.

The union has notified the school division it would proceed with a legal strike beginning Sept. 8, according to a release sent by the WSD on Wednesday.

The possible strike would affect 2,300 students across 79 schools in the school division. School-bus service would not be interrupted for students in wheelchairs.

If the strike goes ahead as scheduled, parents with children who are impacted will receive a letter from their school.
