Teen charged after allegedly stabbing security guard: Winnipeg police

Winnipeg police say a 16-year-old has been charged after allegedly stabbing a security guard at a licensed vendor at the end of June.
WPS says officers responded to a report of an altercation along Westminster Avenue near Young Street around 10 p.m. on June 30.
It is believed that an altercation took place between a youth and another patron, when a security guard stepped in and broke up the altercation.
A short time later, the same youth allegedly got into another altercation with a different patron, and again, security intervened; however, the teen allegedly produced an edged weapon and stabbed a security guard in the upper body before fleeing.
Paramedics attended the scene, and the security guard was taken to hospital in stable condition.
Officers searched the area, which included the use of a drone, which spotted an 18-year-old man trying to conceal themself from police. Officers were directed to his location and he was taken into custody.
While police were able to seize a knife, the 18-year-old was not the person believed to be connected to the earlier altercations; however, he was charged with failing to comply with conditions of a release order.
Over the course of an investigation, police were able to identify a 16-year-old, and around 1:47 a.m., officer attended a residence along Wardlaw Avenue and took the teen into custody.
The 16-year-old has since been charged with assault with a weapon and two counts of failing to comply with a sentence.
