Winnipeg man charged with aggravated assault after preschool-aged child seriously injured

Winnipeg police say a preschool-aged child was taken to hospital with serious injuries, and the 39-year-old man caring for them has been arrested.

The Winnipeg Police Service says its child abuse unit was contacted Monday after the child was taken by ambulance to hospital.

Investigators say the child was being cared for by the man at a home on Thames Avenue when the injuries occurred. The man contacted emergency services.

The following evening, the man was taken into custody. He has been charged with aggravated assault and detained in custody.

The child’s age and gender were not released, nor was the man’s identity.
