1 dead, 1 injured after vehicle rolls in ditch on highway west of Winnipeg

Police say one person is dead and another was seriously injured after their vehicle rolled in the ditch on a highway in a rural municipality west of Winnipeg on Saturday.

Manitoba RCMP say a 35-year-old man was found dead inside the vehicle. A 39-year-old man was ejected from the vehicle and was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities say it happened around 4:35 p.m. on Highway 24 in the RM of Oakview.

Investigators believe the vehicle was travelling west when it “struck the gravel shoulder, over-corrected and crossed both lanes before rolling in the ditch.”

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

Editor’s note: Manitoba RCMP have corrected their initial press release, updating where each man was found in and around the vehicle.
