Construction begins on new k-8 school and child-care facility in Devonshire Park

Shovels are officially in the ground on a new Kindergarten to Grade 8 school in Devonshire Park.

Construction is being funded by the province, and it’s part of a broad provincial plan to open 11 new schools, announced in last year’s budget.

“Originally announced at a 675-student capacity, this new school will now open with an 800-student capacity to accommodate this growing community’s needs.  So it’s going to be an approximately 90,000 square foot facility; it will include modern classrooms, flexible learning spaces, a gymnasium, a multi-purpose room,” said Tracy Schmidt, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Learning.

Minister Schmidt says it will also include an integrated child-care centre with up to 134 spaces for infants, preschoolers and school-aged children.

The school is expected to open in  September 2027.
