Man facing charges for allegedly recruiting other to steal power tools

Winnipeg police say a 37-year-old man is facing charges in connection with an organized retail theft investigation.

WPS says that in June 2025, officers opened an investigation into a man who was believed to be recruiting others to steal brand-name power tools from home improvement stores, which he would purchase through a third party and resell at a profit.

Police say the man “would routinely use text messaging and social media to converse with the persons recruited to steal.”

Over the course of the investigation, police were able to identify the man believed to be responsible and got a search warrant for his phone, which was seized on Dec. 9, 2025.

As the investigation continued, police were able to find evidence that led to the man being taken into custody on March 19, 2026.

The man is facing a charge of trafficking in property obtained by a crime over $5,000, and has been released on an undertaking to appear in court at a later date.
