Winnipeg man arrested in illegal migrant crossing case: RCMP

A Winnipeg man is facing charges for allegedly smuggling people into the country following an investigation by the RCMP and border enforcement officials.

The alleged illegal migrant crossing took place on Dec. 5, 2025, roughly 10 kilometres from Emerson, Man. and was detected by the RCMP Northwest Region’s integrated border enforcement team and the U.S. border patrol.

RCMP said while conducting patrols, officers observed a vehicle which allegedly accelerated after spotting the authorities.

Officers then intercepted the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, resulting in the arrest of a 31-year-old man from Winnipeg who was driving the migrants.

Four migrants were located near the vehicle’s location and were arrested without incident and were then transferred to the Canadian Border Services Agency in Emerson.

The driver faces charges under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

He’s set to appear in court in Emerson later this week.
