Fire destroys home in Winnipeg’s Osborne Village, 1 person missing

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) said a one-and-half storey house was destroyed by fire Saturday night.

Firefighters responded to a report of a fire at 11:32 p.m. by on-duty police officers, in a house in the 600 block of Nassau Street South.

When crews arrived, they found smoke and flames from the house.

After attempting to bring the fire under control from inside the house, they succeeded in controlling the flames from the outside, early Sunday morning at 2:43 p.m.

No injuries were reported. However, one person remained unaccounted for, according to WPFS.

The house sustained extensive smoke, fire and water damages and were believed to be a complete loss. Damage estimates were not available.

WPFS warns that the area near the house was slippery as the water used to put out the fire turned into ice.

The cause of the fire is unknown. Investigation is ongoing.
