Operations at WPS headquarters back to normal after flooding

Winnipeg police are still assessing the full extent of the damage caused by this weekend’s flooding at WPS headquarters.

Police say flood damage occurred from the fourth floor of the Graham Avenue tower down to the basement and affected the main floor and basement levels of the headquarters.

“Damage remediation work began immediately on all affected areas to ensure a safe work environment,” Winnipeg police said in a news release Wednesday.

Police say electrical systems have been identified as safe, and lighting was restored to impacted areas.

“Standing water has been removed from all impacted areas. Testing to air quality and humidity levels across impacted spaces have resulted in acceptable ranges,” the news release reads.

All impacted units have returned to WPS HQ, police add, and are continuing their operations at normal capacity.

Two people are facing mischief charges in relation to the flooding. The suspects, a 51-year-old man and 36-year-old woman, allegedly opened several emergency water supply valves in the upper stairwells of the adjoining tower building.
