Winnipeg firefighters respond to fire at single-family home

A fire broke out at a single-family bungalow on Avila Avenue Saturday night.

The residents were safely evacuated before the crews arrived.

Upon arrival at the scene, the firefighters discovered heavy smoke coming from inside the residence.

The fire was declared under control within 40 minutes.

According to Winnipeg fire paramedic service (WFPS), preliminary observation suggests, the fire was accidental, caused by unattended cooking.

WFPS reminds Winnipeggers to stay in the kitchen while cooking, to keep flammable objects away from stovetops and to use cooking oils safely.
