Winnipeg police (WPS) arrested two people for assault and possession of weapon Wednesday afternoon.
Police say they arrested 33-year-old Wilson Hornbrook and 24-year-old woman who was not named by WPS during a traffic stop.
Hornbrook was allegedly involved in assaulting a man at a gas station located at Abinojii Mikanah and St. Anne’s Road, earlier in the day.
“Hornbrook became involved in a verbal confrontation with a 59-year-old man. The argument escalated when Hornbrook sprayed the victim with bear spray repellent, and returned to the Tundra. As the victim attempted to stop Hornbrook, the woman drove away, dragging the victim a short distance,” WPS said in a statement.
The victim was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.
WPS said the suspects’ vehicle was spotted by East District General Patrol units and were stopped at the intersection of Lagimodière Boulevard and Fermor Avenue.
“An uncooperative Hornbrook was extracted from the vehicle and placed under arrest while the 24-year-old woman was arrested without incident. Officers seized a canister of bear spray, drug paraphenalia, and $600 CDN after searching the vehicle,” police said.
Hornbrook is charged with Assault with a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon, Resist Arrest, Possession of Proceeds Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order x 2, and Fail to Comply with Probation Order. He was detained in custody.
The 24-year-old woman faces a charge of Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer and was released on an undertaking.
The allegations have yet to be proven in court.
