Person rescued from Winnipeg’s Red River in critical condition

A person is in critical condition in hospital after being rescued from the Red River on Wednesday afternoon.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) says crews were called to the Red River near the Provencher Bridge shortly after 1:30 p.m.

The WFPS water and ice rescue unit used specialized equipment to bring the person to shore. They were treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital.

“At this time, it is not known why the individual came to be in the water, or how long they were there,” the WFPS said in a news release.
