Man charged in connection to fire at 5-storey apartment building on Monday

Winnipeg police say a 31-year-old man has been charged in connection to a fire at a five-storey apartment building on Monday evening.

WFPS responded to reports of the fire along Clarke Street, around 10:34 p.m.

When crews arrived, they found smoke coming from the building and found the fire located in one of the suites. The fire was declared under control at 11:01 p.m.

Some residents were able to evacuate prior to firefighters arriving at the scene, but some people did need help evacuating. Despite this, WFPS says no injuries were reported.

Around 1:23 a.m. on Nov. 11, a man who was believed to have been connected was taken into custody by police.

Since, 31-year-old Justin Leonard Osbourne has been charged with arson with disregard for human life, and was the he subject of an arrest warrant for failing to attend court on a release order.

WPS says the fire caused around $100,000 in damages and places the lives of residents at risk.
