Girl, 15, killed in alleged assault on Manitoba Cree Nation; teenager charged with manslaughter

Police in Manitoba say a 15-year-old girl is dead after allegedly being assaulted at a home in Opaskwayak Cree Nation on Saturday.
Manitoba RCMP say a 17-year-old girl from Opaskwayak Cree Nation was charged with manslaughter on Tuesday and remanded into custody.
The death is being investigated as a homicide by RCMP Major Crime Services.
Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) responded to a report of an assault at the home Saturday around 2:25 p.m.
MFNPS officers, along with EMS, arrived to find the injured 15-year-old girl. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Opaskwayak Cree Nation has asked community members to “refrain from posting on social media, as information may not be accurate and out of respect and consideration for the family.”
