After a lengthy investigation, Manitoba RCMP have arrested two men allegedly linked to the June 20 double homicide that left a 29-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman dead at Victoria Beach.
Police say they received a call about a possible shooting on Hampton Road in Victoria Beach, a resort community along the southeastern shores of Lake Winnipeg. When police arrived at the scene, they found the bodies.
“We believe the male victim was targeted by the suspects and the female victim was killed for being at that specific residence in Victoria Beach when the suspects arrived,” said Staff Sergeant Sean Grunewald, Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services
On Oct. 7, Manitoba RCMP and the British Columbia RCMP arrested a 28-year-old man in Abbotsford for second degree murder. Mitchell Johanson, from Grand Marais, has been remanded in custody and returned to Manitoba pending court.
On Oct. 22, Manitoba RCMP and the Nova Scotia RCMP arrested a 31-year-old man in New Minas for second degree murder. Nathoniel More-Harrison from the Rural Municipality of St Clements has been arrested, charged, and will be returned to Manitoba for court.
“In this instance our primary suspects separated and eventually fled to opposite sides of Canada,” said Grunewald.
The charges against both men have not been proven in court.
“These homicides have deeply affected two grieving families, countless loved ones, and created concern for so many residents in the Victoria Beach area. We thank everyone for their understanding, patience, and their trust in our officers as they worked incredibly hard to find the people responsible,” said Grunewald.
The investigation is ongoing.
