Man charged after allegedly chasing construction workers with knife: Winnipeg police

Winnipeg police say a 43-year-old man has been charged after allegedly threatening construction workers with a knife.

WPS says around 3 p.m. on Oct. 7, officers received a report that a man approached two construction workers on Portage Avenue.

The man then allegedly pulled out a knife and began chasing the workers, who fled into a building for safety.

Reports indicate one of the workers’ jackets was slashed by the knife, but police note that no injuries were reported.

At 3:21 p.m., patrol units reportedly took a man into custody who matched the description of the man with the knife. While the man was in custody, police seized a knife.

John Howard Bird, 43, has been charged with possession of a weapon, two counts of assault with a weapon, and a breach of recognizance. The allegations have not been tested in court.
