A 52-year-old man has been charged in the January 2024 death of an 18-year-old pedestrian in Winnipeg’s Weston neighbourhood.
The victim died in hospital after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Notre Dame Avenue and Cecil Street on Jan. 13, 2024, around 6 a.m.
Authorities at the time alleged the man ran in front of the vehicle.
The driver called 911 and provided emergency medical care until the ambulance arrived, according to police. He then remained at the scene and spoke with investigators.
That investigation continued for several months. Investigators with the Winnipeg Police Service’s traffic collision investigation section (TCI) submitted the collision analysis to the provincial Crown’s office, which authorized a charge under the Highway Traffic Act.
On Tuesday, the driver was charged with driving carelessly causing death. He is scheduled to appear in court “at a later date.”
