Prolific shoplifter facing 77 charges: Winnipeg police

Winnipeg police say a 44-year-old man is facing 77 charges in connection with a string of thefts dating back to March.

WPS says in March 2025, officers began an investigation into a prolific shoplifter after a retail store along the Henderson Highway reported that merchandise had been stolen and an employee had been assaulted.

As their investigation continued, police learned of several other thefts and theft attempts across the city between early August and mid-September.

Just before 10:30 a.m., on Sept. 13, officers patrolling along Main Street reportedly noticed the man believed to be involved in the thefts riding his bike, before the man noticed the officers and tried to flee the area.

After a short chase, the man was taken into custody. At the time, police reportedly seized $700 worth of merchandise.

Police say the 44-year-old is facing 36 robbery, theft under $5,000, breach of probation, and breach of release order-related charges.

The man is also facing 41 charges in connection with four arrest warrants, and police say of those additional charges, 16 are theft-related.
