The mother of a young father killed in Lake Manitoba First Nation says two years later, she’s still waiting for answers.

Now, a new video posted to social media is renewing her call for information about the death of 25-year-old Lyndon McIvor.

“I need to know, my family needs to know, like why did this all happen,” said Cheryl Maytwayashing.

“We just need answers to what happened.”

McIvor was last seen Aug. 26, 2023, when he went missing after a night out with friends. Five days later, his body was found in a wooded area of Lake Manitoba First Nation, roughly 160 kilometres north of Winnipeg.

This week, Manitoba RCMP shared a video of McIvor’s mother.

“My son’s ashes are still in the house, and I won’t bury him until I know,” Maytwayashing said.

While an arrest was made in 2024, the second-degree murder charged was stayed in court last fall. Maytwashing believes the person responsible for her son’s death is still in the community, and hopes someone will come forward, or that the video will provide investigators with tips.

“It’s time to talk, tell his story, tell what happened,” Maytwayashing told CityNews. “Just like I said before, if this happened to another mom and my kids were involved, I would tell on my kids because it’s the right thing to do.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Manitoba RCMP.
