Winnipeg police say a teen and an adult are facing charges for allegedly being involved in drug trafficking in the city.

WPS says around 8:50 p.m. on June 18, officers conducted a traffic stop on a 2018 Ford Explorer near Young Street and Sargent Avenue.

During the stop, officers “noticed signs that the two occupants were involved in the drug trafficking trade.”

Both the driver — a 17-year-old boy — and a passenger — a 31-year-old man — were taken into custody.

A subsequent search of the vehicle led to officers finding and seizing scales, cell phones, $585 in cash, and close to 24 grams of cocaine. Police also note that a 7.65 mm handgun with a serial number that had been removed was found on the adult.

Police say 31-year-old Abdelrahman Ikhdair was charged with possession of a scheduled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds obtained by a crime, and multiple firearms-related offences.

The 17-year-old is facing charges of driving while prohibited, possession of a scheduled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds obtained by a crime, and failing to comply with a release order.
