Manitoba government invests over $1 million to improve veterinary care in remote communities

The Manitoba government is giving veterinary care in remote communities a boost.

On Friday, the Ministry of Agriculture detailed how more than $1 million will be spent on improving veterinary care in isolated parts of the province.

This includes expanding mobile spay and neuter services through the Winnipeg Humane Society,
and spending more than $400,000 over four years on a new pilot program aimed at supporting community-led initiatives to improve the health of animals and people, while helping manage dog populations in two Manitoba communities.

The work will be supported by two new positions created within the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian, focusing on community support, animal welfare, and enforcement of the Animal Care Act.
