Winnipeg teacher accused of luring, sexually assaulting teenage student

Winnipeg police allege a teacher from a school in the Fort Garry neighbourhood is facing luring and sexual assault charges involving a student.

The Winnipeg Police Service says the teacher was in an “inappropriate relationship” with a female student in her mid-teens after allegedly communicating with her in private messages on social media and gaining her trust.

Investigators say it happened between October 2024 and March 2025, at which point the WPS child abuse unit began investigating.

On Friday, investigators arrested Ketan Badani, 58, and charged him with sexual assault, sexual exploitation and luring. He was released on a court order prohibiting contact with anyone under 18.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.
