Winnipeg police charge 3 after fight leads to multiple stabbings

Three men are being charged after a fight led to two of them getting stabbed in downtown Winnipeg Friday afternoon, police say.

WPS says around 3:15 p.m. on Apr. 4, officers responded to reports of multiple stabbings along Ellice Avenue near The Promenade.

When officers arrived, they found a 30-year-old man near Vaughaun Street and The Promenade suffering from upper-body stab wounds. Officers provided medical care before paramedics could arrive.

A 19-year-old man was also found near Qu’Appelle Avenue and Kennedy Street suffering from an upper-body stabbing injury.

While both men were taken to a hospital by paramedics, they were in stable condition.

Through an investigation, police learned that both men were part of two different groups that got into a verbal altercation, which escalated and led to the stabbings.

The 19-year-old and the 30-year-old are both facing charges of aggravated assault and possession of a weapon.

Police add that a 25-year-old man is also facing a charge of possession of a weapon.

All three have since been released on an undertaking.
