Winnipeg police say a 24-year-old man has been charged in connection to an assault and robbery Friday night.
WPS says around 7:10 p.m. on Apr. 4, officers responded to a report that a man had his vehicle stolen along Keewation Street near Logan Avenue.
Officers arrived at the scene and spoke to a 25-year-old man who reported the incident and noted that he had been physically assaulted by another man before his 2019 Honda Civic was stolen.
Police received several reports stating the stolen Civic was being driven erratically nearby and collided with another driver on St. Matthews Avenue between Strathcona and Ashburn Streets.
Police say following the collision, which left the Civic inoperable, the driver fled the scene on foot and was taken into custody a short time later.
He was also taken to hospital for injuries he suffered during the collision, along with the occupants of the other vehicle that was hit.
Police say a 24-year-old man is facing charges of robbery, uttering threats, dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, and driving while impaired. He has since been released on an undertaking.
