Liberal Leader Mark Carney visited Winnipeg on Tuesday, where Trump’s tariffs and affordability measures were top of mind. Kurt Black reports

Fresh on the heels of Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre’s visit to Winnipeg over the weekend, Liberal Leader Mark Carney was in town Tuesday, as the prime minister hopeful visited Winnipeg’s New Flyer Industries on the eve of when United States tariffs are expected to be announced.

“Canadians need a fighter yes to stand up to the President, but a fighter to protect your jobs and your businesses and crucially to build an economy that everyone can afford,” said Carney.

During his visit, the Liberal Leader promised that Canada will take strategic retaliatory measures while touting the Liberals’ plan to make life more affordable, highlighting the removal of the consumer carbon tax, which came into affect on Tuesday.

“Removing the consumer carbon tax will save Manitoban families $800 per year, in up front cost.  And that is immediate relief, and it’s just the start,” said Carney.

Carney also enjoyed lunch with members of the city’s Filipino community before heading to the Legislature, where Carney met with Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew.

Carney then wrapped up his visit with a rally at the RBC convention centre.
