Winnipeg police say two 19-year-olds have been charged following an assault over the weekend.
WPS says officers responded to a report that a 50-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman had been assaulted outside a convenience store after yelling at teens who were allegedly littering while driving near Sherbrook Street and Notre Dame Avenue.
Police allege the teens were seen throwing trash out their car window, at which point they were yelled at by the passenger — the 49-year-old woman — of another vehicle. This reportedly led to a 19-year-old woman exiting her vehicle and yelling at the other woman.
Winnipeg police say both vehicles ended up at a nearby convenience store, at which point the same 19-year-old woman exited her vehicle and began to punch the other vehicle.
The driver of that second vehicle — the 50-year-old man — tried to intervene, at which point police say he was pushed to the ground and allegedly assaulted by the woman and a 19-year-old man.
Officers who were in the area for an unrelated matter happened to see the assault taking place and took both suspects into custody.
The 50-year-old man was treated for injuries by paramedics at the scene, but was not taken to a hospital.
The two 19-year-olds have been charged with assault causing bodily harm.
