Nestaweya river trail closed for the season

This year the trail covered 6 kilometres from Churchill drive on the red river to the hugo docks on the assinaboine.

It was built with the support of winter enthusiasts who “adopted” a metre of the trail through the Trail Together. Over 985 metres were adopted this way, and people could put their name, or the name of a trail lover in their lives, on each adopted metre.

The trail lasted 68 days this season, 12 more than the 56-day average.  Last year, due to warmer weather the trail lasted just nine days total.

As of today, the forks is no longer monitoring or maintaining the ice, and is advising people to stay off the river.
