A suspect previously facing a lesser charge in Winnipeg police’s Ashley Isabella Murdock homicide investigation is now being charged with first-degree murder.
And a fifth suspect was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
That’s the latest in the investigation after Murdock was found dead last summer.
Kenneth Young, one of now five suspects arrested in Murdock’s death, was initially charged with accessory to murder. Winnipeg police now say that charge was upgraded to first degree following the investigation.
Investigators also say they arrested Dregus Daniel Young, who was previously not one of the four suspects facing charges. He was detained in custody.
Police say Murdock was found dead inside an apartment complex on Kennedy Street on the morning of July 5, 2024.
The 28-year-old had been reported missing two days earlier; her last contact was reported to be on June 26.
Investigators believe Murdock’s body was moved to Kennedy Street, but they say she was not killed there.
The three other suspects facing charges are: Kelly Marie Kroeker, 32, second-degree murder; Charles Harold Wood, 38, accessory to murder; and Devon Colomb, 26, accessory to murder.
