GameFest Winnipeg brings action-packed weekend to the RBC Convention Centre

It’s a February long weekend to remember for many families here at GameFest Winnipeg. The fun-filled event is geared towards kids, teens, and of course, those who are still kids at heart with dozens of exciting games and activities to enjoy.

“Winnipeg is actually a fun city and we want to be able to highlight that fun vibrant atmosphere,” said Lou Alarkon, a co-organizer of GameFest.

Whether it’s bouncing around on inflatables, testing your skills at the ninja warrior dome, or working on your golf game at the mini-putt course, GameFest has something for everyone.

“I liked going on all of the bounce houses they were really fun and just racing with everyone,” said one GameFest participant.

Another saying, “You have to like duck underneath it and then jump over it and keep doing that and sometimes it’s just fun to get hit in the face by it.”

GameFest is Manitoba’s largest indoor winter event and is produced by a team of local women with the goal of bringing the community together through the joy of games.

“To be able to offer an activity in the Winter because there’s really not many things to do, so we wanted to do this for families but also bring back the element of play,” said Alarkon.

The three-day event also features live performances from local artists and a variety of local vendors. With all the uncertainty across the border, event organizers said highlighting Winnipeg’s small businesses was at the top of their list.

“This is the backbone of Winnipeg, this is the backbone of our community and this is the backbone of our economy so incredibly important to support local,” said Alarkon.

Josh Ayers, the co-owner of Intergalactic Sauces says, “That’s what going to keep us going and a lot of people have transitioned into doing their own thing especially post Covid so more now than ever buy local, support local.”

GameFest is produced by a team of local women with a goal of bringing the community together through the joy of games and organizers say it’s Manitoba’s largest indoor winter event.

“It is really great because you know what, it’s so cold out that you need something to do and you don’t want to stay home,” said a mother of a participant.

The excitement will continue at the RBC Convention Centre from Saturday to Monday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
