Confrontation over rent payments leads to machete attack: Winnipeg police

Police say a 49-year-old Winnipeg man is facing charges after a confrontation over rent payments escalated into a machete assault on Tuesday morning.

The Winnipeg Police Service says officers were called to Syracuse Crescent regarding an assault with a weapon.

Officers were told a 23-year-old man was getting ready to leave his home when he was confronted by a 49-year-old man, who police described as “also an occupant.”

“The argument escalated to the point where the suspect armed himself with a machete and assaulted the victim in upper body. The victim was able to flee the residence with minor injuries,” WPS said in a news release.

The suspect was taken into custody.

Vijay Singh has been charged with assault with a weapon. He was released on an undertaking.
