Driver arrested in 87-year-old pedestrian’s death

A 44-year-old Winnipeg man was arrested over the weekend in connection with a fatal traffic collision last month.

An 87-year-old pedestrian died in hospital after he was struck at McPhillips Street and Leila Avenue on the morning of Dec. 23, 2024.

The driver remained on scene and met with police.

Authorities allege surveillance footage revealed the driver of a pick-up truck was going east on Leila when he struck the senior, who was crossing at a crosswalk.

A suspect was arrested on Sunday. He faces a charge of driving carelessly causing death.
