13 Winnipeg community centres to split $1.1M for renovations, safety improvements

More than a dozen community centres in Winnipeg are getting an injection of cash that will help with renovations and offer more services to residents.

Thirteen community centres owned by the City of Winnipeg will split $1.1 million through the city’s Community Centre Renovation Grant Program.

“These grants are an investment in the heart of our neighborhoods — our community centres,” said Mayor Scott Gillingham in a news release.

“By supporting renovations and upgrades, we’re ensuring these spaces remain accessible and well-equipped to meet the needs of Winnipeggers, now and for generations to come.”

The city program will ensure the community board can access the city funding for projects like facility repairs, upgrades, retrofits and even safety improvements.

“The City of Winnipeg is committed to supporting our community centres, which serve as vital hubs for connection, recreation, and engagement across our neighbourhoods,” said Vivian Santos, chairperson of the Standing Policy Committee on Community Services.

“Through these renovation grants, we are helping ensure these facilities remain safe, welcoming, and modern spaces where residents of all ages can come together and thrive.”

The 13 community centres set to receive the funding are:

  • Corydon – Sir John Franklin site
  • Dakota
  • Gateway
  • Greendell Park
  • Maples
  • Northwood
  • Notre Dame
  • Oxford Heights
  • Red River
  • Robert A. Steen
  • Sturgeon Heights
  • Tuxedo
  • Weston
