Winnipeg teacher, 37, accused of grooming, sexually assaulting teenage student

Police say a Winnipeg student support worker allegedly groomed his teenage student into a sexually exploitative relationship.

Matthew James Mousseau, 37, was arrested by the Winnipeg Police Service’s sex crimes unit and charged with sexual assault and sexual exploitation.

The victim, who police say is now an adult, attended an afterschool program within the Seven Oaks School Division between May 2019 and August 2020 when the alleged exploitation happened.

The accused, who was arrested Sunday and detained in custody, was arrested and charged in October in a separate incident.

This victim in this latest case, police say, was made aware of the October charges and decided to come forward.

Mousseau worked as a teacher in several schools in Winnipeg until May 2024, but is no longer a teacher, according to Winnipeg police.

The WPS says anyone wanting to speak to an investigator can call 204-986-6245 or make a report online.
