A 55-year-old man has died after what police describe as an unprovoked stabbing attack in downtown Winnipeg on Thursday afternoon.
Winnipeg police said officers responded to a report of an injured person in the 100 block of Henry Avenue shortly after noon.
When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from serious upper-body injuries. He was treated by paramedics at the scene before being transported to hospital in critical condition.
Investigators say an adult male approached the victim and initiated an unprovoked confrontation. During the altercation, the suspect allegedly produced a weapon and assaulted the victim before fleeing the area.

He later died in hospital from his injuries.
The Winnipeg Police Service’s homicide unit has taken over the investigation.
