18-year-old man arrested after another carjacking incident in Winnipeg

An 18-year-old man is facing multiple charges in connection with a carjacking in Winnipeg on Monday afternoon.

The Winnipeg Police Service says officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle at 1:27 p.m. on Watt Street near Harbison Avenue.

Responding officers arrived to find a 22-year-old man suffering from the effects of bear spray.

Investigators believe the victim was delivering a parcel on Harbison when he was allegedly bear sprayed and had his vehicle stolen.

He was treated on scene and medically cleared.

Shortly after the alleged carjacking, police say several citizens reported a vehicle matching the description driving erratically in the area. Officers located it in a rear lane near Bowman Avenue east of Watt Street, and took a man into custody.

Braden Whitney, 18, of Winnipeg has been charged with robbery, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon, and failure to comply with probation order.

In a similar incident over the weekend, a 39-year-old man was allegedly bear sprayed and had his vehicle stolen from him near Sherbrook Street and Ross Avenue. Police have not suggested the incidents are related in any way.
