Winnipeg firefighters battle 4 seperate blazes overnight

It was another busy night for the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service as crews responded to four fires between 11 p.m. Thursday and 5 a.m. Friday.

WFPS first responded to a fire in a large commercial structure on McPhillips Street near Jefferson Avenue just after 11 p.m.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found that a fire outside the building had started to reach the outside of the building.

Fire crews began to battle to fire and were able to declare it under control at 12:28 a.m.

WFPS says staff that were working inside at the time of the fire were able to self-evacuate, and no injuries were reported.

Around 2 a.m., WFPS responded to a second fire, this time at a single-storey, multi-tenant commercial structure along St. Anne’s Road near Oakleigh Place.

When crews arrived at the scene, they noticed smoke coming from the building.

Battling the fire from inside the building, WFPS was able to declare it under control at 2:32 a.m.

Less than an hour later, WFPS was responding to another fire, after receiving a report of one at a one-and-a-half storey house on Alexander Avenue near Owena Street at 3:07 a.m.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found a “well-involved” fire along with heavy smoke coming from the home.

Due to the conditions of the fire, firefighters fought the blaze outside the home. The fire was finally declared under control at 6:35 a.m.

No injuries have been reported, and WFPS notes that a neighboring house was temporarily evacuated as a precaution.

It is believed that the house is a complete loss due to damage sustained by fire, smoke, and water.

WPFS also responded to a fourth fire around 4:48 a.m., at a vacant two-storey, multi-family home along Evanson Street near Preston Avenue.

When fire crews arrived at the scene, they found smoke coming from the home. The fire was declared under control at 5:28 a.m.

Firefighters searched the building and no occupants were found. Additionally, no injuries were reported.

WFPS says investigations into the causes of all four fires are underway.
