4 charged after alleged kidnapping in Winnipeg

Winnipeg police says four people have been charged in connection to an alleged kidnapping and assault Thursday morning.

WPS says around 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 24, officers responded to a report of a “disturbance and possible assault” at an apartment along Balmoral Street.

Police then conducted a wellness check at a suite in question, when a woman covertly asked them for help.

Talking to the woman, police learned that she had been assaulted by others in the suite. After learning of the assault, the officers took four people into custody.

The woman was then taken to hospital to be treated for head and upper body injuries.

Through an investigation, police learned that all five were known to each other prior to the incident. It is believed that the woman was confronted about an issue and was then forced to go to the apartment, where she was then allegedly repeatedly assaulted, robbed, and held captive.

It is also believed that she did manage to escape, however was forced back to the suite, at which point a witness called police.

Since, 37-year-old Anthony Joseph Kostanjevic, 33-year-old Justin James Anderson, 37-year-old Cadence Grace McIlwain-Collard, and 29-year-old Tanisha Caitlin Fleet have all been charged with kidnapping, robbery, and assault with a weapon.
