Parts of Manitoba remain without power following massive wind storm

By News Staff

Manitoba Hydro says they are still working to restore power to parts of the province after high winds damaged power lines, utility poles and equipement.

Workers are trying to repair downed power lines, prioritizing ones that could pose a public safety risk.

According to Manitoba Hydro, crews will then work to restore power where larger blocks of customers have been affected, before working on small groups or individual customers.

Due to the recent weather, numerous trees and branches have damaged power lines and need to be moved.

Manitoba Hydro says anyone who does not have power can contact the utility’s call centre at 1-888-624-9376, noting that they are still taking calls despite currently having long wait times.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to restore power as quickly and safely as we can,” said Scott Powell, Manitoba Hydro’s Director of Corporate Communications.

Importantly, Manitoba Hydro says that if you do see a downed powerline, stay at least 10 metres or 30 feet away from it and call 911.

A complete map of areas without power can be found on the Manitoba Hydro website.
