Manitoba RCMP officer shot at by suspect with replica gun during disturbance call

A suspect allegedly fired a replica gun at an RCMP officer during a disturbance call in Gimli, Man., on Tuesday afternoon.

Mounties were called to the home around 4:40 p.m. after a report of a 23-year-old man needing to be removed from a home.

When officers arrived, two men were located, and one of them was allegedly pointing a black pistol with the laser pointer activated.

After officers ordered the man to drop his weapon, a fight broke out between both suspects over the firearm, according to police. An officer tried to intervene and was fired at by one of the suspects with a replica firearm, hitting him in the chest.

Authorities say the officer was not injured, and was able to arrest the suspect shortly after.

The replica firearm was found to have been loaded with .43 caliber ball bearings, police say.

Christian Carter, from Gimli, was arrested and charged with discharging a firearm with intent, assault on a police officer with a weapon, and more.
