WPS investigating fatal assault of 52-year-old woman at Assiniboine Ave apartment

Police say a Winnipeg man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the deadly assault of a 52-year-old woman on Sunday afternoon.
The Winnipeg Police Service says officers were called by members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service to an apartment building on Assiniboine Avenue near Garry Street around 1:15 p.m. for a report of an assault.
The WFPS was providing emergency medical care to the victim – who has been identified as Lucy Wood – in the building’s common area.
Police say Wood appeared to be the victim of an assault and had sustained serious injuries. She was taken to hospital in critical condition and died of her injuries.
A suspect was found and arrested in the building, according to WPS.
Jules Desjarlais, 20, is facing multiple charges, including second-degree murder and two counts of assault. He was detained in custody.
The WPS homicide unit is investigating.
