4 fires overnight Friday, Saturday on Langside, Archibald, Higgins and Scotia

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) attended to 4 fires overnight Friday and Saturday morning in the city.


Higgins Avenue Fire

At 10:34 p.m. Friday, WFPS crews responded to the report of an outdoor fire at a three-storey mixed-use building in the 100 block of Higgins Avenue.

Firefighter found the fire reached the building, launching an offensive fire attack. The fire was declared under control at 11:12 p.m.

WFPS helped residents evacuate from the building. No injuries were reported.

The fire is under investigation.


Archibald Street Fire

At 4:54 a.m. Saturday, crews responded to a monitored fire alarm in a two-storey commercial structure around the 100 block of Archibald Street.

Upon arriving at the scene, crews found light smoke coming from the building. They launched an interior attack and declared the fire under control at 6:06 a.m. Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters worked to ventilate smoke from the building.

No occupants were found by crews during a search of the building. No injuries were reported.

The fire is under investigation.


Langside Street Fire

At 6:12 a.m. Saturday, WFPS discovered a structure fire at a vacant, two-storey house in the 400 block of Langside Street. Crews had responded to a garbage bin fire in the same block.

Upon arrival at the scene, additional crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the property. They launched a defensive fire attack from the exterior. The fire was declared under control at 7:45 a.m.

No injuries were reported.

An emergency demolition crew was ordered and the house was taken down after significant structural damage was found.

Both fires are under investigation.

WFPS crews previously responded to a fire at the house on August 31st.


Scotia Street Fire

At 10:30 a.m. Saturday, WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a bungalow in the 200 block of Scotia Street.

Crews found smoke coming from the house and launched an attack from the inside. The fire was declared under control at 10:51 a.m.

People inside the house self-evacuated before crews arrived. No injuries were reported.

Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction.
