In the blink of an eye, a semi-trailer wheel detaches, catapulting into a stationary construction truck before bouncing back onto the road in a reduced-speed construction zone on the south perimeter. The impact is so powerful that it… pic.twitter.com/wzulL6wZsc
In the video, the tire can be seen bouncing down the road after hitting a construction vehicle in a marked construction zone.
“The impact is so powerful that it visibly shakes the camera capturing the scene. Now, imagine that wheel hitting a nearby worker instead of the truck,” said Winnipeg police in a tweet.
“This video is a stark reminder of the importance of vehicle safety and the critical work done by our Vehicle Inspection Section to keep our roads safe.”
Police say road construction zones are more than a site, it is someone’s workplace. Construction zones are already dangerous to begin with, police say, and they are encouraging drivers to take caution and slow down to help ensure the safety of those working.
